Hi, can anyone advise me on what may be the cause of a battery short on the positive side cable to the battery post. I lose total power to everything but when I move the positive battery cable up and down the power returns. Silverstone say it's the fuse that runs between the cable to the battery post. When the fault occurred the voltage dropped to 4 volts on the cable side and 12 volts on the battery side. Volvo are charging me $175 for a new clamp and fuse + Labour because they say the fuse is part of the clamp. Have had it back to them on 3 occasions and this is their best guess. Is this a one off problem or has anyone else had similar problems with their cars? Oh yes and the fault occurs at any time either when driving (Loss of all electrics is scary on a freeway) or when it is just sitting after being driven.

Take it to a car auto electric place. They are guessing , then they throw parts at it which may or may not fix it but you keep paying until it is fixed or not , dealers are not called "stealers" for nothing....

How does the battery box look? Any corrosion around the terminals of the battery? I would be sending to an auto sparky to diagnose. Volvo are generally good at diagnosis rather than throwing parts at things but intermittent faults with power will not generally log useful things you can see in Vida.
Philia_Bear
Vida generally wont log battery faults at all
Battery cable failing on one of them is pretty dam frikken rare because of the battery being in the trunk
Rob
battery is not in the back... battery is in the engine bay, jammed right up under the wiper cowl.
Philia_Bear
Wtf did they move it back to the front for
If the cable is gone it means it was in a crash at some point and not properly fixed

Or lots of salt water

Or non sealed box that has been leaked into.

Thanks egads, Battery box and battery don't have corrosion. 1st thing I checked. Silverstone striped down all the battery connectors and wire brushed them when I 1st went to them - Still got the problem. Over that last 2 days it has been warm in Melbourne and the problem had increased, so am wondering if there is a dry solder joint. The car has not been involved in any crashes that I am aware of got it through a Doctor friend.

It might have been damage on the boat ride over
