after reading through this seems the 4.4 compatibility comes down to the
Climate control. So you need a 4.4 ECU and turner pro I guess.

But looks like you can flash 4.3 ECUs with the right bit. Best thing would be to get real time read out on these units.

Sorry I havent been too clear and I also realise I am in an 850 related thread. (at risk of hiajcking this thread) I actually have an 2002 v70xc. Are the processes for a conversion on an 850 similar to an p2 at all? Im probably way out of my depth but im always trying to learn.

James , don't worry about hijacking , we like getting off track its how we all learn!
I think the biggest issue you will have is finding a gearbox to bolt in.
Then the electronics are the problem.
Others know more than me but I expect you would be better off buying a manual car instead considering the above.

Anything IS possible if you put your mind ( and wallet ) into it though...

Om these later cars, all the modules are coded to each other. I.e. you cannot easily modify the ECU or swap it with a manual ECU even if you manage to do all the hardware. I believe that there are companies that can help with the ECUs, but they are few and far between (and thus probably expensive).

It seems to me like the v70xc would be a good daily and if I want a project car something pre 2000 ish is the best bet. 200 or 700 series wagon with a t5 is the dream.

With the 850 and v70 awd system are the rear wheels only driven when the fronts are slipping? Because if I get something for a project car I would prefer rear wheel drive or predominantly rear wheel drive.

Yes the rears are driven when front slip but you don't have to worry about that , Rob is having great fun with his C70AWD conversion and look here ate Hussain's XC70R-

If he can make 500HP+ and run it through a Volvo AWD system then you have nothing to worry about.
He uses a later driveshaft and that is about it for the big power mods to the drive train.

Of course a 245 wagon with 242 front doors and a T5 turbo is my dream but an 850AWD is a nice thing too!

To clarify the 242 doors being longer for the coupè need the pillar to be moved back , I invisaged it being a 3 door but still 5 seater.
The 240 door aperture is like a hilux , too bloody small for me and I am not over 6'.

That sounds like a job and three quarters. Would look pretty sweet. The mechanic I go to has a bunch of 240's for when they are working on your car, its always cramped, especially when you have just got out of the v70.
