Shifter doesn't hold itself in Reverse gear, Shifter shakes when reversing

Hey lads, its been a minute since I've been on here.

Neapolitan, the 1990 240 Auto lh2.4 has developed an issue.

When putting the trans into reverse, there is a small amount of shaking and noise. Sound like teeth of a gear brushing the bottom of the shifter rod or something.

It can also drop out of Reverse into a Limbo space, halfway between reverse and neutral, however the transmission stays in reverse, the car still moves backwards. In Limbo halfway position, the shaking and noise is much worse.

If anyone else has had this issue id love to know what is broken or what you did to resolve / fix it.

I don't know about the noise but the loose shifter could be that one of the little donut bushings on a linkage has perished and fallen out. I've had to replace a few of these over the years.

I had a similar problem, it was the rear gearbox mount had broken.

[42], [43] and [44] if worn will cause problems as will [38] / [39].
