XC70: Parking Brake Module Location

Hi. I have the "Parking brake service required" warning. Whereabouts is the parking brake module on a 2009 XC70? I just wanted to give the cable connector a wiggle before replacing it.

..and another question - if I replace the parking brake module.. Is this a simple swap-out or is there some sort of coding required?

Can you scan it for faults? Park brake button failure on the dash is fairly common, also could be a caliper stuck.

Yeah just found my scanner.

This is all I could get out of the Parking Brake Module with my scanner. I don't know if the codes are of any use.

Module itself is behind the passenger side load area trim.

Would probably try and scan it with vida before pulling trim apart pretty sure module needs coding. I've replaced one for a customer a few years ago

Some good news here. I found the exact same parking brake module (matched up all of the numbers on the case), swapped the module out and now my parking brake is working again - so no need to code/program if you can find the exact same module.

Big relief here.. Now I'm wondering whether to hold onto the car or get rid of it before the next module fails.

Modules are usually $1200 plus dealer coding and towing costs.

Yeah , am thinking her s80 2007 has had enough modules already, she had a Camry, wanted a Volvo cos I love mine, I'm trying hard to get her into a Camry as just too much hassle with S80....

Yeah. Volvos are awesome when they work.. This is my second XC70 and its been nothing but a pain in the backside. Cost me around $500 for a module from eBay but given the replacement module is the same age as the one that came out..

Might just have to advertise the Volvo now while everything is working. If I could get the old module rebuilt then I'd consider holding onto it - I just feel like I have a timebomb sitting in the garage.

I would love a 2016 V40 diesel too.. but they're even more complex. I've had to own a backup car ever since I've owned the XC0.. I think I've had enough to be honest. :-( Probably easier to own a Volvo in AU than it is in little NZ.

Any Euro car (esp Mercedes according to a guy who runs the towing service/roadside assist for them in Melbz) is crap here , we really must have a set of parameters in climate or something that they have no clue , i expect USA to be the same.
