Correct pads and rotors?

Hey all,

Just wondering what's the correct type of pads and rotors I need for my '88 245? I'm trying to source the parts locally and not needing to ordering them in from the states or Europe since the cruise is only a month away

Lots of options. I use genuine rotors which are readily available here and not obscenely expensive.

Pads are a personal thing, genuine are very dusty and I do not like them. Bremtek are very good for normal driving and they have never faded on me on the street and have very low dust. Professional Parts (Sweden) are also quite good and not very dusty. Berry's can ship PP pads and Voldat stock Bremtek, these are probably available from many parts suppliers too.

A few have spoken about QFM (Queensland Friction Materials) and can comment on their use as apparently they are well regarded.

Any comments on the QFM pads?

@kahviaika local brake suppliers will probably want to know if you have Girling or ATE calipers and if your front rotors are solid or vented.

You should have Girling calipers and vented front rotors but always best to check what's on you car, even post a photo of your calipers and we should be able to confirm for you.

We were a QFM reseller - very good product offerings and range but QFM went out of business a couple of years ago.

Hi All,

I bought a set of rotors and drums for my 360 GLT from RDA a few wears ago, from I think was Sparesbox. They work as expected and were a lot cheaper (half price??) than imported gear and arrived in a few days.

Also RDA is about half an hour away from where we live should there be a problem.

Just had a look at the discs and there appears to be normal wear (might be a bit less) after 15k. Also the drums are not particularly rusty outside.

Weirdly the rear pads shake when they aren't clamped down on the rotor, guessing one of the past owners didn't get the right pads for it? Oh well

Ok, you have vented front disc brakes, Girling front so buy parts accordingly.

QFM pads - good for not squealing, but IMO below average for good braking grab (friction against disc).

Sweet! Can someone post the correct part numbers for replacement pads and rotors for the front and back? The rear brakes look like they've been replaced back in the 90s ?

Also this is off topic to what I originally posted here but what's the correct replacement for a water pump on sparesbox? Mine is leaking from the weep hole

easy answer to all these question: put your year and model into IPD or FCP Euro database and all these part numbers will magically pop up.

i look at my rusted up discs and callipers and think they need a serious clean up, there is bugger all wear on the discs and pads, but sitting around outside in the central west for a while has done the discs no favors. Moving the car around has cleared some of the built up rust off of the discs, but overall they look crappy and old.

Yeah I'd recommend fcpeuro.com for something like a water pump. Hepu brand pumps I think everyone here would agree are excellent quality, but you could also get a genuine Volvo pump.

FCP are also fans of Oz Volvo and you can get a discount see this thread for details.

Not sure if anyone answered but your rear calipers are Girling as well. Most of the later USA 240s had ATE rear calipers, so just be careful looking up part numbers on American websites as you'll likely end up with the wrong rear pads. FWIW.
