Battery Charging Failure Warning - Ideas?

This message came up last night. When the car was last serviced six months ago the technician said that the battery was "weak". The battery was last replaced in Dec 2021 from a very reputable supplier. Could this message indicate that the battery has failed or will it be something else such as an alternator?

It always pays to look under the bonnet in the daylight! The belt was vert fatigued and that should have been picked up at the last service by the Volvo dealer. Pretty unhappy but I'm glad it's not the alternator as that was around $800.00 genuine + fitting.

The tensioner should also be replaced at 6 years or 90k. Check the clutch on the alternator as that will cause the belt to break too. Use a genuine belt as they break like yours has as the aftermarket ones usually shred and feed in behind the cambelt causing catastrophic engine damage.

Thank you, Mike. The car was transported to the service-centre on a flat-bed truck. The belt was replaced with a genuine Volvo belt free of charge as the service centre said that they should have picked it up at the last service. The tensioner and clutch were all checked and found to be perfectly fine. All in all it was better than a replacement alternator!
