Hello there,
I'm new to the forum. My son owns a 2018 XC60 and lives in Melbourne. The car suddenly stopped, and would not start again, as his wife and baby son were travelling. The car was towed firstly to their usual mechanic and then out of exasperation to the nearest Volvo dealership.
A diagnosis by the Volvo techs suspects blocked vents in the roof prevented water drainage, which caused water build up in the spare wheel well, which affected the electronics and seized up the car. The early feedback was that the car should not be stored anywhere near trees where debris can block the vents (my son is the second owner, parks it in a garage at all times, but regardless I can't see how a car cannot be subject to some sort of debris from trees especially in Australia!).
I took a quick look online because this sounded a bit weird and not 'fit for purpose' and I've found all manner of commentary around the world on a similar issue, some of which looks to be associated with the sunroof?
In any case, the bill is looking upwards of $3K, the car is barely months out of its 5-year warranty, and we don't think this should be a user-pays issue under those circumstances.
Does anyone have a similar experience or any advice please?
Thanks,
Mark
