Ignition barrel / key is buggered

Hi everyone, I am looking for an early 140 164 series ignition lock mechanism with key, or ignition barrel and key. The only markings on mine are "Volvo" and "Neiman 148". Or has anybody had luck exchanging the cylinder from one of these with a slightly later model or other generic barrel replacement? I would like to stay original in the location of the switch rather than go for something aftermarket.

Have attached a photo of the part required.

Agreed. They more or less don't exist second hand. I have two, but they are past their prime. I just gave my good one away to a friend in a car, but it took me years to find used.

I've also dismantled one to look at fitting a new barrel. It's too custom inside to be practical. I couldn't find a substitute barrel. I will probably buy new for my car's while I can.

You can try a standard no security ingniton lock available in auto shops, but easily hot wired.

164 cars are pretty rare now and getting costly overseas. But there is not the economy of scale to remake this type of part so we are living on dwindling stock. They won't get any cheaper if you plan to keep the car.
