I've been chasing a running issue around in circles and thought it's about time I make a thread about it.
One of my 244s has a rough running issue. It was plaguing me last year, then it went away, and now it has come back.
Symptom: running on 3 cylinders intermittently. At first I thought it was just at idle and low engine RPMs but it appears to be happening at all RPMs and is just less noticeable until you are maintaining a high speed cruise, at which point you feel the intermittent power loss. The car will run happily for a minute then put put put put put, then run again, rinse and repeat.
I've got lots of spares so I have swapped a few things trying to isolate the problem but nothing has helped.
Swapped K-Jet fuel distributor and control pressure regulatorTested K-Jet fuel pressures, all in specSwapped injectors, flow seems good, I haven't done a proper CC comparison of flow yet thoughChecked resistances of coil, distributor cap, distributor hall sensor. Coil primary and secondary both out of spec, swapped in a good coil, no change.Verified vac and centrifugal advance workingChecked coil ballast resistor, it was a bit corroded but did test OK, I swapped in a nicer one I found, no changeSwapped Bosch ignition controller (the unit over by the washer reservoir)
I did previously check the cold-start injector however I think I will check it again
I looked in the bores as 6 months back when I was last looking at this, I did find coolant in the #3 cylinder. Since then I rebuilt the head and the borescope this time shows all four bores and pistons nice and clean and no coolant in sight.
I think the next few things are:
Re-check ignition leadsCheck ignition computer groundSwap in a good distributorCry
Give me your hot takes.
