Hi everyone,
I was just in the USA for three weeks and left the car here (obviously), but with the assumption that my wife would drive it. But she basically never took her stuff out of our XC70 and just kept driving that the whole time... and now of course the S40's battery is dead. "No worries," I thought, "I've got a 1200 amp jump starter." (even if that is getting a little old now).
But putting the jump starter on, all it seems to do is confuse the ECU and you get crickets when turning the ignition. You get the dash showing a few different messages, like "ANTI SKID OFF" and stuff like that, but you get absolutely nothing from trying to start it.
What I have tried:
The jumper pack (which says it's working, but it is about 7-8 years old now)A Noco 2-amp trickle charger. It's been on for 24 hours and won't advance past showing 1/4 charge
More info:
The steering lock doesn't seem to want to come off. You don't get that "zhhp" sound that it makes a second before it normally starts, and the steering wheel feels locked (this even with the jump starter on)There is a sort of fast clicking coming from inside the cabin, very quiet but certainly not normalIf you disconnect the jump starter before removing the key, then the key gets stuck in there and won't turn back to 0 or come outI've made sure all interior lights etc are off, BUT when I put the jumper pack on, some combination of headlights/parkers seem to be want to be on EVEN when I cycle the switch through the different modes. This was at night though, so I will try today in full sun.
My instinct is to move on to trying another battery and buying one if I have to, but I obviously don't want to keep buying stuff if that's the wrong course of action. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.
