242 door cards - replicate or repair

Hi all,

My latches have been playing up donor was time to pop off the door cards and have a look.

Latches all fixed, but as expected the door card could be in better condition.

looks like there’s been various repair attempts. Before I do the quick fix I wanted to check if anyone could source 242 card templates or had any tricks?

There's a thread on TB about somebody making his own, but unfortunately most of the pics in the post didn't survive TB's transition to the new host.

Driver side was much worse. So I think repair won’t be an option.

If the door cards are in reasonably good condition I use a marine epoxy timber guard saturation system to make the cards waterproof.

Just paint it on until the cardboard accepts no more. Don't over do it! Reinstall after about twenty fours or until the stink has gone.

One of my 360s door cards were treated 35 years ago and are still in good condition as of last week when I lubed all the in door mechanisms. The car has always been kept outdoors.

All my other cars have been treated too.

Do you recall the brand? Passenger could be salvageable.

Drivers looks pretty far gone so might try to make a template.

I used epoxy laminating resin and hardener 2:1 mix ratio then diluted the mix with epoxy thinner enough to allow it to readily brushed on to soak in to the cardboard.

There are products specifically for the job but they are too dear. Marine chandlers will have many brands of products able to do the job. Some hardware shops sell epoxy systems which are often much cheaper. Remember, car door cards are not a big deal like waterproofing yacht timbers.
