Hi All, i am at a loss and have gotten to the point im about to give up. I recently bought a 2007 XR5 turbo Ford Focus. Much to the minister of war and finance's disgust. The car had CV issues that i knew about when i bought it but other than that it was in really good nick from what i could see. after having it for a couple of days, fixing the CV shaft it started doing the following -
Loss of aircon, electric assist steering, traction control and ESC. The voltage was not sitting above 12.2v and would drop to 8.5v under accelaration / load and then stall out. Will stal with all lights, AC and stero turned off.... i dont understand how the voltage can drop when its only powering the steering and ECU? i have put this down to alternator, i purchased a new battery for $311 just to get home. it has done the same to the new battery(not enough voltage to start car) at this point i have started the process of removing pretty much everything off the engine just to access the alternator in an attempt to replace it... got halfway through and found that i had purchased and been supplied the incorrect alternator :( At this point i threw the toys out of the cot and spat the dummy and pretty much just threw it all back together.
The next day i thought F&^k it ill take it for a proper squirt down a deserted back road and stretch its legs because i had not had a real chance to do so until the CV was fixed.... while i had a great time ... i noticed my AC go hot and the voltage had dropped to sub 11v, so turned around and went home before it started stalling again. I made it home .... just ....and it died on the front lawn (cooked / uncharged another battery) im pretty certain its the alternator and will have another crack at it when im not as time poor.
the next troubling thing is after i had my little moment of fun and limped home i open the bonnet and notice there is a considerable amount of oil spray throughout the engine bay, i would say but enough to make a few bits shiny
im at a loss, could be turbo, could be oil filter housing, could crankcase bypass.... current state of depression / dissapointment because i love everything about the car. Looks, power, comfort and performance are all ticking the boxes, it just seems that its one thing.... then another... then another... who knows when it will end.
if anyone can help me out with what direction i should take or any suggestions, handy hints, things to check it would be most appreciated... before i cut my losses and just throw a match on it
cheers
