2005 S40 ECU Connector removal

Trying to remove the ecu plastic cover as part of airbox removal from my 2004/5 S40 - Have tried pulling up using 'gentle' leverage all to no avail.

How I do I get it off??

UPDATE: Got the cover off with a help of silicon spray and more force only to find an issue with the connectors to the ECU. The top one had a red release lever - but there is no release lever on the bottom one - some prior person has been there before me! see pic.

Any suggestions as to how to release the bottom connector and also (If I can find one ) fit a release lever to it?

Cripes - fiting new hoses is turning into a nightmare!

@martyG it's the same kinda deal as the top connector you will need to use a small flathead or pick tool to push the locking tabs out, either side of the connector.

You will need to do a little bit either side to work the connector off. There's nothing to stop them coming out completely though so make sure you don't push them all the way out into the engine bay

Tried everything: A small pick, tiny screwdrivers, metal shims, even plyers on the small amount of locking tap sticking out of the bottom of the connector. Not a trace of movement. Soaked it with silicon lube but made no difference. Going over to BMG in the morning ready to part with $$$ if they can fix it.

My attemps at DIY failed at the first hurdle!

Cos , mate, if you jump the queue on peeps that booked in months ago I'm a bit peeved cos I'm looking at march , the end of march before I can get a service.....

It's causing all sorts of angst that people rock up expecting to be helped for minor stuff, it's pretty serious considering the shortage of mechanics.

I've got warranty work needing done yet I have to wait , booking system is there for a reason.

Calm does Les if its a simple 5 min fix to show him how to remove a broken ECM connector then so be it. BMG is a business and will potentially gain another client. If its not a simple fix then correct take a number.

I understand @timbo explanation of how to remove the connector as i play with ecm plugs and pins very regularly but if @Marty isn't familiar with cars or broken ECM connectors i can understand his frustration with trying to remove it and wanting some help or advice to achieve his goal of the airbox removal. Don't get up him for going to seek help or advice.

Went to BMG this morning. Was only there for 5 minutes. Their advise was to remove the 5 screws holding the computer to the airbox so I could get a better view of the problem. Did that once home and with around 30 minutes of struggle managed to free the connector. Found that one of the locking slides in the connector cover was broken internally and thats why it was such a struggel. Any way all resolved....

Lloyd is correct, BMG has gained my trust and when the time comes - another client. BTW I am sourcing most oof my parts from them already.

BTW Les - no offence taken, all good.

Re broken levers I purchased a pair of the connectors from Swedish Wreckers (that they had cut from a buggered loom) and pulled them appart then swaped the 'new' covers with OK levers over to my cars connectors - that was about 3 weeks back - that all worked very well. I now have a spare small - thats the upper plug on the ECU - connector is anyone wants it - just drop me a line.
