Hey people, hoping for some help. I swapped the engine in my 87 240 due to a knock, used all the original wiring and sensors etc. I have spark and the fuel pump primes, but there is no injector pulse. What triggers this? All earth's are on, wiring checked, new plugs, tim8ng bang on. Any ideas?

Check the white/green wire in the big bulkhead plug on the passenger side. That plug can corrode internally and cause weirdness.

If you unbolt the distributor and turn it can you hear the injectors pulse and can you see a spark? If yes to spark it means your hall effect is good and your ICU is working. If no injector pulse then check the injector circuit for grounds and the white/green wire I mentioned earlier. It should have 12v on it with the key in the run position.

The injector pulse is triggered by the hall effect that tells the ECU the engine is turning so fire injectors and run pumps.

Cheers for the reply, If I turn the dizzy the fuel pump primes if the engines also at tdc. It sparks aswell. I'll check for injector pulse when I do it and check the plug and go from there.

Any other things I should check?

From what I remember, the trigger signal is sent from the Chrysler ignition module. Dodgy biodegradable engine wiring can be a big part of this too (improved in late 1988). The part of the wiring harness that contains the wires runs under the front of the engine and up to a couple of plugs under the inlet manifold, the main plugs at the firewall, plus a connection to the coil on the inner guard. IIRC you can jury rig a signal from other sources. There are wiring diagrams online.

Make sure the bulkhead plug is seated properly. The rubber goes brittle and you think you've connected it but the pins can back out.

I've had this exact issue with my 240 way back in 2014. Had spark, pumps primed when I turned the dizzy. Testing with a multimeter found I had no 12v to the injectors. Looked at a wiring diagram and my issue turned out to be the inside of that plug had corroded and the injector 12v wire had backed out.

Thanks guys, I need it ready as it's my wedding car on Saturday. Really appreciate the help.

This fixed it. Backed out pin at the grey plug. Your a legend, as are all the Oz volvo guys. You got me to my wedding in my brick. Thank you.

Fantastic news man! Congratulations and good luck on the big day!

Slowbrick I'm having the exact same issue, when you say bulkhead are you referring to the connector to the ecu or ecm? Or referring to something in the engine bay/firewall?

sloth do you have a photo of the claimed "bulkhead" that you had to clean? Im having the exact same issue on a 88 240. did a head gasket/timing belt and have fuel spark and air but no fuel to injectors and I'm getting power to them,

ramrod replaced the fuse but the fuse holder isn’t in great shape so I’m going to swap that out today and see what that does. Still unsure of what the “bulkhead connector” is. The grey connector on the firewall? He mentioned passenger side, and the grey bulkhead sits about center if not closer to driver side. So unsure of where it is.

Both of those grey 'bulkhead' connectors are a known problem, yes.
