S/V/C Aluminium Trim removal/refit

Hi ALL,

I was lucky enough recently to score a Aluminium interior Trim set for S/V/C 70 of a member here recently as you know there scare and rarely come up so? for offering them to me.

My Question is has anyone one successfully removed the actual Aluminium trim from the Horrible plastic volvo uses before and refitted it to another Trim good plastic peice? If so what tools did you use and how did it work out?

I can see the edges are folded over and Imagine there will be glue holding it down as well? I just want an idea before I go and try and remove it.

Various bone tools would be my first point of call .

I'm thinking the best way to wake the old glue up so it's payable would be a hot air gun lightly over the face . But this brings the question of will it damage the surface ?

Obviously not done this myself mate , looks tricky but doable . Looking forward to seeing the end result ? .

The one in the picture, is that said facia ? Post a picture of what it's going on . Why can't you just swap it ?

I've removed similar aluminium trim on an r-design P1 waterfall.

I wasn't trying to reuse it, so was pretty rough removing it. I think it would be really tricky to get it off without damaging/creasing it.

So the plastic frame on the trim i scored is brittle and cracked. my plastic in my car is fine but the fake wood trim on mine is catus. @Ex850R that photo is of the actual trim i have its just aged in certain places cracked broken and I have glued it a bit and I will apply some sikka for strength but if I can swap the actual face over I would much prefer it.

I couldn't remove the aluminium without creasing it visibly around the edges. (I gave up and refinished some Nordic Light Oak panels from a wrecker - give me real timber to work with any day !) Maybe you'd be better off trimming the wrapped edges with a dremmel and relying on adhesives to keep them attached to the new plastic. It's the only way I can think of without damaging the visible surface too much.

Because it's broken cracked brittle and damaged i though I made that obvious

I found any of the P80 i pulled apart ALL have brittle plastic because they made them from new eco friendly plastic.

Adding new mounts , repairing cracked and strengthening is the only way.

Buy some carbon fibre material by the roll and stick it in with glue of some sort that sticks.

I made it all work on dash mounting too after effing about with all sorts of gunk.
