Up for sale is our much loved 2006 Volvo V50 2.4i. It has served us well, but rego is due and I can't justify keeping it on the road. It was bought nearly new in 2007 from a dealer, but is a 2006 model. It has done just under 136,000km.
The Good: Never been in an accident (other than someone denting the bumper when they reversed into it in a carpark). Driven pretty sedately. Interior is actually in pretty good nick - leather seats, etc. The photos make the leather look cracked, but that's not how it actually looks. Paint is in good nick. Electrics all work. It has been meticulously serviced and I can provide all receipts.
The Bad: Rego expires on 13 December! So if you want to drive it away, you'll need to take it before then, or be prepared to drive it straight to a mechanic (or put it on a trailer). It'll need the brakes fixed to get passed for rego. But there are other issues that reflect the price: an engine mount needs replacing, the oil breather has failed (so it'll go through oil), the struts need replacing and the aircon goes warm after about 30 minutes of driving. I have a full list. Was quoted around $6.5K for that work (other than fixing the aircon). Hence it was decided to let it go. Also lost the service booklet and manual - one of the mechanics who looked after it managed to lose them and I didn't realise until it went back a year later.
If the above was fixed it'd probably be worth around $6K, and would give you at least another 5 years of pretty inexpensive, and very safe, motoring. It is probably only of value for a mechanic or Volvo hobbyist who can source the parts and do the work cheaply. Or it is used as a donor car.
It is currently in Lindfield (Sydney north). I have bought a replacement, and the dealer offered to take it for essentially nothing, but I thought I'd see if anyone here was interested in trying to keep it on the road. So make an offer!
