The previous owner went to a lot of effort and did a superb job of stitching on this cover on the Volvo’s steering wheel. SUPERBLY COMFORTABLE, but I’ve never been keen on the look.
SO IT HAD TO GO!
I kind of felt guilty cutting all his extremely neat stitching off, then removing the huge amount of tape and layer of padding he must of taken forever to put on. I should have taken a photo, but forgot.
It revealed the original wheel in pretty good condition for its age, just worn smooth around 60% of the wheel. I was expecting worse. I should have taken a photo, but once again I forgot.
After the comfort of the ‘pimp mobile’ cover, the hard skinny stock wheel felt a little unsatisfying.
So 10 bucks on eBay bought me this “premium leather cover”. The description stated that “ premium actually means fake” but I already knew that anyway.
My stitching is nowhere near as good as the previous, but I’m much happier with the plain black look over the top photo.
So, do I splash out on a genuine leather cover and do it all again and see if I can improve on my sewing skills?
Or can anyone recommend a company that does professional steering wheel restoration?
