thought I would share some pics of my 740 turbo…has been lots of fun over the past 3 years of my ownership (belonged to my dad before this), but as with all old cars there has been a chain reaction of things braking/leaking/falling off in the last year or so!
It is extremely standard (and probably original in many ways…read - struts, springs, peeling/fading paint etc.) but it seems to have some character to it that we like…
Over the past year my mechanic and I have been checking/replacing a lot of things (and mainly wear items I might add which is good, and some other which after nearly 300k have probably lasted longer than they should - brakes, rotors, timing belt/front cam seals/water pump, fuel pumps x2, AMM, transmission pan gasket, output shaft bushing and the list goes on…
I have been chasing oil leaks over the past month or so, we have traced the leaks to three places - a small leak from turbo (pretty insignificant I think), larger leak from the oil cooler lines/oil filter area and a transmission leak from the front bushings? (requiring the transmission to be taken out to repair (good time to also replace transmission mount)…oil use while talking about oil is OK, i use penrite full syn 10-40, change it every 5-7k's, with a check/general top up once a month.
A/C is very weak - checked all engine bay lines for leaks and found none - suspect its somewhere behind the dashboard - it has the old style auto climate control with the slider controller and dial temp.
per/100 is OK, averaging 10.4 which is combo short trips/highway driving...
Anyway, here's some pics…
