  • WTB: Engine for a 98 v70r (and possibly bits to do a manual swap)

welp my v70r has shit the bed again so i am in need of a new motor.

dad was driving (again) and ignored an oil light. oh well. shit happens

there is a wrecker in fairfield with one but before i give him any money i thought id check here first

may as well do a manual swap while motor is out so if anyone is wrecking a manual car i would be keen to grab all the required bits if theyre going cheap.

ps: is there any way to delete the engine oil cooler lines and blank off the port?

I'd be looking for a P2 2.4 or 2.5 litre with an M66 gearbox......

The later motor is so much better than any used motor you might find , reconditioning your motor is expensive too.

While M66 is a bit rare it has a better spread of ratios than the M57H in the R.

Your auto can be built a bit better and even paddle shift added , an old Turbobricks thread has it.

If you cut the oil cooler lines you can patch on an external cooler for bot transmission and engine oil, no need to plug the radiator just flush out the old fluids.

i'm not sure if i want to faff around putting different engines in tbh. i just want a nice easy swap. its my only car atm so a quick job is what im after.

I have an engine from an 95 850 T5 auto that I want to sell in Brisbane. Was running well but has sat for 3 years or so. It would be smart to do timining belt etc.

sounds perfect! pm me your phone number and we can sort out the details

still looking for manual bits but not that bothered if it stays auto

Finding a scrap looking 850 manual and buying whole car is best way that way you are sure to get all the bits and have lots of other spares for your car, I found this the best way.

Bear in mind the non turbos have M56 , not same or as strong? as M57H in 850R.
