Springs make a lot of difference
in 1979 I thought my 1974 142 was sagging a bit much so I put some air lifters on it
didnt help that much and I found the air seals rather difficult to keep tight. So I stopped that
july 80 I swapped the 142 for a 75 245 also 4m m40 box b21e engine. Kept that car for 10 years from 67,000 to 267 000 or so…
i thought the back sagged a bit too much so I put some Lovell springs in. Didn’t help bringing 159 bricks home in the car one time for my r egnovations These springs were so strong I had to spend a month at the Physio.
turns out the Volvo springs were 12.8mm in those early 240s and 12.95 in later. Eg post 1980. Put vernier cal opera on yours! So I found some of those 12.95s at a wrecker and all was well.
roll on the 90s and I got myself a Saab 9000. A bit soft so I put the Aero suspension in it bigger springs and tougher shocks. Beautiful! Cheapest improvement I ever made .
so what is the truth
don’t overthink itdon’t over do it keep it as close to original as posdible even the Swedes had some idea what they were doing…
