I'm converting my '74 144 to a manual transmission. I'm planning to use a "Mustang" T5 trans, but need to find some of the other Volvo specific parts.
Ideally would prefer parts in Tassie, but am happy to pay to ship smaller parts and anything that proves hard to find locally. I'm in Devonport, but go to Hobart reasonably often.
The bits I'm chasing
Bellhousing: M46 is the one I've been told works. M40/41 should also work.
Flywheel: 8 bolt crank
Clutch pedal assembly: 140
Gear lever boot and surround: 140
Clutch fork and cable: to suit bellhousing
t5 for 5 speed or for power? I have a complete p51 (early celica/corona 5 speed) conversion for a 140 that I can sell you and probably even bring down depending on how keen you are timing wise.
I think I don't have an untorn boot otherwise everything is there.
Both. I'm hoping the 5 speed will help me bring my fuel consumption down from 16-20 L/100km, but I also have a nice little turbo sitting on my table to go in once the drivetrain can handle the power. I've already got quite a few of the mustang t5 parts on the way, so am committed to that route now, but thanks anyway.
Okey dokey. @carnut1100 may have one kicking around along with the other bits as there should be crossover with 240 for a late 140.
Failing that, I wonder if @GT_Paul has bits or a lead on bits as he is pretty local to you. @volvodriverman may also have bits and again is pretty local.
T5 also sounds like the best way to go considering turbo conversion is in the works. Any pics of the car or a project thread kicking around? I am a bit of 140 tragic.
I will say for all most of the others that contribute on here that we ALL love a 140 and would love to see a project thread and pictures!
I'll start a project thread for it soon.
The only bits I absolutely need are the flywheel and bell housing, which can both be from a 240, so hopefully it won't be too hard to find.
The guys @egads mentioned are all Taswegians , @Angus242164 is in Vic , he may have , look him up and others have lots of spares ,geez, @Pom has whole cars you could buy and drive away for parts cheap!!
Awesome. Thanks for all the leads. I'm just starting on discovering who has paddocks filled with Volvos locally.
Possibly have most/all, in lismore currently tho...
Sounds great @volvodriverman. I'm still in the parts collection stage, so timeframes are pretty relaxed. When are you back?
Ha! Great result!
OzVolvo is great!
I have a flat 8 bolt flywheel from an early 240 available, off the car and ready to go, asking $40 as-is, or $100 freshly machined. I can't help with any of the other bits you're after unfortunately.
23rd I think,where are you? I'm in forth.
@volvodriverman I'm in Devonport. I'll get in touch later next week.
@Angus242164 Thanks. I'll see what Volvodriverman has first as he is only 10 minutes down the road, but if he doesn't have anything suitable I'll let you know.
