My first Volvo! 240 Sedan

Picked up a bit of a project car last weekend, it’s a 1984 240, with a front end conversion.

Its got all new bushes, king spring in the rear and DVS springs in the front, interior is pretty tidy and the original red paint is tidy. At the moment I want to get it on the road and enjoy it.

in the near future I wish to either do a +T conversion and manual conversion or another engine swap, love the idea of a 2.5 5cyl turbo in the 240.

first few jobs are new starter, near rear wheel bearings, bonnet latch cable, speedo cable and see if it’s the fuel sender unit that’s making the fuel gauge not work.

anyway I hope to keep this updated with any progress and look forwards to learning more from this forum.

240 is a good choice of first Volvo, and possibly the start of an addiction.

Sounds like it has some nice goodies on it already. Take care of the wear and tear stuff and it will be a rewarding car to drive.

Cheers mate! Will hopefully get it on the road this week. Getting rear wheel bearings done this week, then it’s speedo and fuel gauge to fix.

colour match the front panels and it’ll make a tidy 240 to cruise in. B230f+t or B6304 N/A in the near future perhaps.

Yeah LED and they function quite well (got to test them out on the last part of the trip home).

as for how they fit it looks like they’re mostly held in with automotive adhesive upon closer inspection, probably not ideal but I have got my eyes out for oem replacements incase.

only have what info I was told when I was messaging the last owner I purchased off.

Before him it was owned by a older gentleman.

the last few weeks I’ve replaced the starter and found a rust hole underneath, the transmission had a leak/bodge job on the transmission dip stick, pulled out the rear axles to have new rear bearings put on and started looking for a better grill!

next is to tackle the bouncy speedo, non working fuel gauge, rust hole and attempt to colour match the front end.

With speedo cable, other than full removal and lubricate length with oil, check all along that the cable clamping has wide arcs so cable doesn’t get in a tight knot (bouncing). Especially first clamp after leaving transmission.

Cheers, I was going to order one from IPD but I’ll check over it first and see if I can get it fixed.

in the near future I do want to do a B230ft/+t or B6304/other engine swap with a manual conversion. Just need to pick one and start collecting parts!

Be careful with buying certain things from overseas suppliers such as IPD. Left hand drive parts are often different

One of the first thing I check is fitment when buying from overseas. Learnt that one before haha

Yes. I wonder if there’s two different part numbers (Lh and Rh).

My guess is a rhd length would be shorter, but that said there is a lot of free length on speedo cables Ive replaced before, so could equally be universal.

Try and lubricate first. Also just remembered the plastic turn lock fitting at can be broken at speedo end so keep a look out for that being an initial issue.

little update, she is on the road!

now suspecting either stuck rear right calliper or handbrake as when I pulled the axles to replace the rear bearing they didn’t look bad at all.

engine swap options are running through my head while I fix the little things haha

@Morelia6 just beware there are loads of different speedo cable lengths and it's different between LHD and RHD also
