Volvo 240 Exterior Temperature Sender for Volvo VDO Gauge

Hi All,

I’m slowly working through getting a pod gauge setup for my 240 wagon and I’ve hunt down most of the parts except for the ambient air temperature sender. I purchased this item from Skandix but I don’t think it’ll work with OEM Exterior Temp Gauge (-25 to +40c)

I’ve found another thread on here which points me to VDO sensor: 323-801-008-002D which looks to be sender on page 40 of this document: http://www.vdo.net.au/media/189586/fcl_catalog_sensors_for_instrumentation_v4.pdf

Any tips or pointers on where I can get a sender that’s close enough to OEM?

I managed to fit this sensor behind the front bar in a similar fashion to how the OEM setup looks. I have it mounted on a bracket made of stainless steel and wondered would this cause issues with the temp reading as it seems to be reading a few degrees to high as it stands?

P.s: I ordered the sensor form the US but wow they really went overkill on the packaging for such a small item. Ridiculous!!

Stainless only heats quicker than carbon steel so no difference.

We use staino on everything at the paper mill and I do lots of senso brackets for all types of sensors.

The position is more likely to give false reading from radiated heat with sun on local area.

Most external temp guages are not true.

I've always found the ambient temp gauge to be a bit temperamental, I don't know if that's just the gauges being old or a limitation of the design or what. They would also probably soak some of the heat radiating up from the road. A good test would be to put a thermocouple next to the sensor and compare the readings vs a multimeter
