Climate control operation

1997 S40 with electronic climate control.Dont seem to be getting enough air flow to windscreen and it's fogging up and no clearing also rear view mirror slightly foggy.Have tested air flow on various setting,there is air flow but no enough? No wet carpet or smell of coolant although fill tank seems down slightly from what is was( still not below min mark)..What do I checkout first some sort of distribution flap? Heater core? Blocked intake grill?

Obvious questions: Is your blower fan working properly ? Fan controller diode is a common failure.

Have you changed your cabin air filter...ever ?

It's also possible that the flaps have gotten out of calibration and aren't opening as they should. In this case a recalibration with Vida could help.

Thanks Staggers(Nathan),appreciate your input.Well yes the blower motor seems to be working ok.It goes flat out on Auto or 5 then seems to change speed ok on other setting.No never changed cabin filter,didn't know there was one.As Haynes manual says air conditioned car don't have one? I will search for it.There is air flow out of windscreen vents as tested with a tissue,but not as hard as whats coming out of front dash vents no matter whats dialed up.When auto mode is selected and air distributor is set to windowscreen,air con green light come on and compressor kicks in so thats working.Will there be wet carpet if core is leaking?What is Vida? Vida is the factory Volvo diagnosis software covering 1990s - 2014 models. Heaps of information and calibration available which you can't get from most generic scan tools. Not as useful for your 1997, but I sourced it to sort out a transmission issue on our low mileage 2003 S40.
