In my old 1978 the flame trap was inline with a hose coming from the bottom of the air filter box. But my 1991 doesn't have that hose. I have VADIS on CD-ROM, and the factory image of its location is nothing like my car.

I've taken some photos of the only two likely things I can see.

Photo 1:

The item in circle 1 is located between the two rearmost fuel injectors.

Here's a closeup:

Is in inside either circle 1 or 2? If not, can anyone help me locate it?
Item 1 in your pic.
Thank you... Ok, so it's hiding in the rubber boot. Looking at the pics again, I guess you have to force the lower lip of the rubber boot upwards. Is that the best way to get it apart, or do I need to cut the cable tie?
Yep cut the cable tie.
While you are at it you should make sure the pipe/hose on the top of it doesn't have crystalised crap blocking it. I did this by taking it off, bending it and tap all the stuff out.

I removed and replaced it without cutting the cable tie. Just levered it upwards with a flat screwdriver, and pushed it down again after replacing the rubber cover.
