The ride you have described is a more extreme version of what I have found with B4s in a variety of cars, but the clunky (noise?) suggests that there is another problem.
They do improve as they wear in, but don’t expect miracles.
I am yet to find a car where B6s are less comfortable than B4s. People often mistake the B6/B8’s control as being harsh, based on short drives, but I find that they are actually very comfortable.
I first experienced this in a friend’s rally car - first few kilometres would be “uh oh, this is going to be awful” but then you do 200km on the road in poorly padded race seats and realise that it is all ok.
Sachs will generally give a smoother ride than the B4s, but KYBs will be better again.
