  • 1998 V70R auto with head gasket issues $2400 ONO

Posting on behalf of Keith...please contact him directly if you are interested or have questions. I believe car is in VIC, but I am awaiting confirmation. If the car is sold/not available, please let me know so we can mark as sold.

Hi Greg.

I've ended up with a volvo wagon by default ,I'm a car guy but I'm not familiar with volvos

I've always loved this car and have worked on it over the years as an auto electrician

So I saved it from being wrecked it has a head gasket issue and just runs ,but I believe it is a fairly rare car so I wondered if anyone in your club could use it

I paid 2400 dollars for it and obviously would like to get as much back as possible but I am realistic and would prefer volvo guys to get it

Many thanks

Hard to tell if clear coat is ok but seats are shot as is steering wheel.

I'm gonna say it....he paid way too much......

Is it AWD or removed driveshaft and only FWD.

Head gasket repair, all parts and extras needed at the shop is about half the asking price iirc.

I wish him luck , I had the exact car as my project with a dead engine and shot interior too. Lovely colour.

I went and looked at it a few weeks if anyone wants any more info, I might have taken a few pics. I've just forwarded the ad to someone who stopped in asking I had one a few days ago.

5 years ago, I would have definitely agreed with you @Ex850R , but P80 'R cars' are becoming desirable, even rough ones.

All the 'R stuff' is becoming harder to get or is NLA - wheels, dash trims, dash top, seats front and rear bumpers, even the roof spoiler brackets are hard to get hold of.

I like the Garnet Red but Garnet Red/Beige seems to be a fairly unpopular R colour combination and someone has swapped over the Comets for Canistos.

If you're set on a P80 V70R, the price might be fine, but you'll have a project on your hands. Even to do a FULL beige to charcoal interior swap is a heap of work and you'll likely be sourcing parts from multiple cars to put together a reasonable interior. Even then, you'll be spending some $$ with a motor trimmer.

Looks like a viable project worth doing , weather you've got the coln to throw at it or sit on it for a while and do bit by bit . Nice color ?

    Agreed.

For the price of it, I'd have taken it on if it was on offer when I was looking for one. There's probably not much more work in it than there has been with the one I've got.

I had mine sat in driveway for a year or more doing full interior our replace with painted black or black plastic, strengthened dash etc etc. I didn't have the heart to finish it when we moved house so that car and two others went to make refrigerators in Asia .....

    I'm not doing projects anymore....

eh seems like a decent price considering what good ones are going for

Trouble is you need to BUY another car for parts , i know , ive been there and had about 5 wagons worth of parts and still needed to paint plastic ( if it hadnt crumbled...)

The interiors are made to be recycled in 10 years from manufacture , the car isnt great , i stand by the fact that to fix this (and the one i had) it is uneconomical at even $1000.

The thing is though, when does economics come into it . If we all thought that we wouldn't buy older cars etc or any hobby actually tbh .
