Afternoon,

I was considering putting a 850 t-5 gauge cluster with the boost gauge in my 97' turbo 850, would my car still have the wiring nessesary for the boost gauge even though it didn't come with one from the factory? I did some research and couldn't find any answers, so I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks!

Rory i am pretty sure they an analogue guage meaning they physically have a boost/ vac line to the guage.you might have to plub it up but most of likes should already be there.

Yeah ok, Ive heard it's not to difficult to plumb a aftermarket one, so I might give it a go! Thanks

This video describes where the vac tree is and like he says the lines should already be in the car and up to the dash cluster already. I had to run a line like he said for my aftermarket guage but it wasn't hard at all. Pull a plastic cap of that black vacuum tree and run a hose into the cab. But if your car is a factor 850 turbo one would assume that the lines are already there.

Pull your instrument cluster out and have a look would be the first thing I would do

Sorry I should of said I have 97 v70 thats why I had to run a line as there was no provision for a boost guage in the factory instrument cluster so volvo never put it in the car.

Most p80 cars have all the wiring and plumbing for options and accessories and just are blanked off or tucked away in the car a bit of digging uncovers them tho.

Was it only the T5R and the R that came with a boost gauge cluster then ? And not in the 850 turbo ? Interesting.

Here @Rory its 100% a mechanical guage this video shows it and where the hoses run but remember its a LHD car in the video as my vac hoses for the cruise control runs on the drivers side.

And get a cluster out of a 97 or 96 model the closest year to your car as i read the early ones are different for how the speedo works and they are not interchangeable.

There is plenty of info out there on the internet. Worst case just fit an after market guage in a pod or vent pod and good to go no haven't to play with instrument clusters

Yeah ok, I have access to a t5 not sure what year it is, but I figured since I had the part available, it would be a nice, but still quite subtle upgrade to the car.

Yeah it's quite interesting that the car didn't come with the gauge, especially considering that it's a 850 AWD, but I'm guessing the gauge was only for the models that were specifically sporty...

In that last video see how he just had the face off the the instrument cluster when he is showing the boost guage bar.

they might just be interchangeable Depending on how confident you are at pulling things apart you could swap the face with the boost guage off the T5 dash on to your instrument cluster in your car then you have the OEM guage on your cluster and its got the right kms on the odometer ect. Pulling it apart would be alittle complex if your not super confident not to hard just fiddly and easy to damage things if your not careful.

If you want to know actual turbo pressure is psi ect you will need an external guage.

I have this from a 96 850 T-5. Should be plug and play as it's OBD II. Just need to add the yellow vacuum line that goes through the firewall to the vacuum tree on the intake manifold.

Regards,

Michael
