Time for a Moose update... In the past couple of months I have bought/sold a parts car and splurged at Ash's garage sale. The car isn't looking its best, but it will come together nicely soon enough - HAVE FAITH :)
I bought Goldie off ebay from a chap in Wodonga. It was an '84 GLE, just like mine. The parts that I needed from it were the electric antenna, electric window motor and various interior bits. I didn't pull too much off it, but I did learn a lot by stripping the interior down and pulling apart the dash for spares. Goldie did have a rare leather interior, but it was too far gone to salvage :( I installed the electric antenna and ended up swapping the left rear doors. This was due to the combination of having a working electric window and having less dents. Door cards were swapped over too.
Goldie is gone now. It cost me a few hundred all up, but was a big learning exercise for me.
Next up was installing the OMP wheel/boss kit and horn button. Getting the R-sport horn button (thanks
@240Joe) to fit was a bit fiddly as the bits didn't quite fit together.
Next up was dealing with the clean out of Ash's garage. I bought his Group A wing/bootlid, extractors, headlights/clear indicators & black door handles. Headlights/handles haven't been installed. I sanded down the extractors and gave them a nice coat of black. I got them installed with a 2.25" exhaust being put on too. It has a much more sporty sound, especially when the car is cold and lumpily idling at around 550 RPM :)
The boot lid/wing were to go on next. Looks rather silly, but I was happy enough to have a champagne coloured door, so a red boot isn't the end of the world either.
So yeah, there have been a few jobs done, but still many more to do. In the short term, speakers/stereo will be swapped as well as the headlights/door handles. Manual conversion and cam/head? will need to get done soon. Interior will be reupholstered and the car will be painted eventually too.
