Looking for a p1800 in non-running condition

Paint condition is irrelevent but body condition is important... it can't be a rust bucket

interior condition is irrelevent

mechanicals are mostly irrelevent (does not need to have any part of drive train except rear axle, suspension needs to be there enough for me to roll it onto a trailer... i don't care about condition of brakes etc or even if the calipers are there...

If you really want one and you're not fussed about it being LHD, buying one from a contact of yours in the US and importing it back here is the most cost-effective option.

Asking prices for 1800s in OZ have always been luna orbit high and totally crackpipe - even before COVID, even before Y2K, Even in the late 1980s they could not be had for sub-stratospheric money. That's why mine is a US import, and its cost including importation was less than a quarter of the ask for a local unit in comparable condition.

This is parked up in mona vale, I saw it while doing some work on my car a few months ago. Was parked amongst a few workshops specialising in older cars. I can ask my mate to swing around next week and ask about if you like?

I had a brief look, I can't remember any major rust...

Well done Bob. You must have got it in before the asbestos crackdown. I had to strip every bit of possible asbestos out of my 144 before doing Peking-Paris in 2019 to both export and bring the car back again. Certification cost me the best part of $1000. And I’ll probably have to get another one before doing P2P again in 2013.

Brake pads, handbrake shoes, clutch linings, manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets. Typically.

Mother Volvo went completely asbestos-free in about 1993, although the phase-out began some years earlier.

@jrhendo - Yes, I was doubly lucky; I got the 780 over here in 2015 before they got all clucky about The Big A. But WRT buying an 1800, Mister Bear is going to be far better off financially finding one via his US contacts, getting it asbestos-free, and importing it here. $1K is about 1/60th of the average ask for one over here.

In my 144, it was in the under body seal, the sound deadening everywhere inside, the mastic holding the door cards on and potentially in brake pads and handbrake drum linings, clutch driven plate, manifold gaskets, water hoses. The list goes on.

I was going to put it on a rotisserie anyways so if I need to do that in the USA and then come here... least of my issues

Stripping the car to the shell and blasting it and then dipping it in gal was in the plans anyways
