Keith
I have a 1984 240 fitted with a B23E motor with GT head and an H cam.
Probably similar to a 242GT.
It appears to rev easily to 7000+ but I don't feel that would be good for it!
Obviously this would be briefly in 2nd and 3rd and not often.
Is it the H cam which is giving it top end revs?
No valve bounce or running out of steam.
What revs can I safely pull?
I'm using it for autocross with short straights where max speed in 2nd is required.
Thanks, Keith

Hi Keith, are you doing autocross at Avalon?
I also have a H cam but in a late '84 B230E 240. I regularly do motorkhanas and autocrosses at Avalon and regularly go to (and maybe over?) 7000 rpm.
When doing the motorkhanas we spend most of the 30 or so seconds at red line without any problems.
My brothers and I once gave another 84 240 with H cam a hard life at high revs each day for many years, in the end it went BANG but it took a lot of abuse to get there.
So I think you should be fine for short periods every so often.
The H cam does provide most of its power in the high revs, which is different to other standard cams.
You could use an adjustable cam gear to bring the power down in the revs if you wanted to. I have one installed but haven't adjusted it yet as most of the time on dirt is spent in high rpm I don't want it to run out of puff.
If you are racing at Avalon I also stay in 2nd on the straights, it saves the car getting unsettled shifting back down from 3rd to 2nd.
Dauntless
The H cam does help them rev, the power starts to drop off in mine over 6000, but there have been a couple of occasions where it's gone off the tacho.
The pistons and rods are quite heavy, so I don't think I'd regularly go to 7000rpm, however the stock redline is 6500 so you're not going a long way past that.

Hi Joe, did Avalon Autocross first time last Sunday - thought you might be there!
Great track, will go again whenever I can.
Anticlockwise, all 2nd except back straight in 3rd.
First straight was where I was surprised at the revs with no faltering or valve bounce etc.
Those front wheel drives certainly hang on, Need to find at least 10 seconds!
Whats your phone number?
