98 m4.4 car is already motronic, easily reflashed to a turbo tune, it should have plugs for tcv in the wiring loom already.
It's not impossible, but with higher compression and the standard NA head it really just won't be worth the effort with the very small amount of boost it would tolerate.
By the time you grab, turbo, both manifolds, sump, radiator with oil cooler, all pipework, front mount, dump pipe and cat, pcv and tcv, air box and maf from the wreckers it will really add up in price, and for very little gain.
However grab the whole t5 engine and fit a slightly larger turbo, you could have a reasonably fun car.
I never paid attention but there is a chance the non turbos may have even more differences, maybe a lack of a fuel return etc.
Oh yeh would need the rear water pipe changed to have the water lines for the turbo, and the block drilled and tapped for the oil feed.
Alot of work for something that will prob just pull timing at anything more than 10psi on 98 octane
