asiandriver;27240 wroteCome see me this weekend I have the dealer diagnostic tool that can reprogram the remote for you, can also clear your service light too.
Looks like you'll be busy this weekend!!!

Oh I should say I can't drive the car anywhere, its unregistered, so it'll have to wait until its registered haha
Checked the timing belt, it was done at 127000 kilometres, way back in 02 I think, so its now 12 years old, so probs due for a replacement, I think they need doing every 100,000 anyway and its been 100,000....
Gave it a bit of a clean inside and it came up okay, so many little broken things everywhere haha.
It had seat covers on it and I was expecting torn seats underneath and I was surprised when I found...
They're perfect!!

They also go off age. About 8 years is the max you want to leave it.

its been like 12 so surely it would have snapped by now if it hadn't been changed more recently? Is there a way I can look at it without actually removing it?
It was due for a service 3 months ago, the owner told me he had the car checked a while back and it needs front end work (shockers), he didn't say anything in regards to the belt..
jaykenneally
Car has been regularly serviced at UltraTune, next service due on the 27/2/2014 or at 234,000 (its at 228,000 now) and the sticker says its due for "Ultra Plus" service whatever that means... I tried googling to see if that was a "major" service or just a fancy term they used for prestige cars. Any thoughts?
Ex850R
Dont bother with what they say , you need to do a 'Stage 0 ' , fix all the hoses and oil trap and things you know , check the front end bushes , A arms bushes and ball joints , you can drill out the old balljoint and put in one Ash @DVS @Ash will / should provide , saves buying a whole new 'A' arm which is ex$pensive...
Talking to a mate who has been playing with leather for years last night i asked what to clean and nourish the leather and its not all the fancy bottles of shit its SORBELENE , usually hand lotion , this works on full grain and bonded leather which is what most car leather interiors are done in now since the early '80s. Thinks of the cheapo leather like couches that peeel , not as bad but thats why we get lots of ugly cracks in our Volvo seats!
Yours look FANTASTIC!
$5 bottle of Sorbeline , put it on clean cloth and apply to the seat in an inconspicuos spot to see the result , circular wiping , turning often , it cleans and nourishes just like your skin , which of course real lether is and still breathes.

The entire front suspension set up I think needs replacing, it all sounds a bit loose up there! I think most of the suspension on the 850 is good.
I just used a general purpose cleaner to get rid of 17 years of grime that has been sitting on top. But yes I will buy a bottle of that to bring em back. Ill do the XC's whilst Im there, they look like they've never been done!
My door card leather is peeling (like all of them), any way to fix?
Ex850R
Door cards , yeah , i know . I have strengthened and sound deadened my front cards and glued it a whole lot more than factory had.
One or two spots come apart due to old glue and the area where it can be seen on yours could possibly be driled from behind , glue squirted in and a bag of rice pressed into the other side to stretch it and glue it , a bit of heat on the vinyl may be handy i reckon . I deadened the door skins too as much as possible , the clips are one thing you will break , get or make the correct shape tool to unclip them it will save some. You will need to get extras from wrecker as they will break.
jaykenneally
I wasn't surprised haha, every V70 I've seen except for like the last model ones like late 2000 models did this, cos Volvo can't glue :P
If I can ever be bothered Ill try and fix em haha, theres a lot of things on this car that are falling apart, just wear and tear. My entire tail gate is just.... Whoa haha... Like it doesn't lock unless you slam it, and all the trim is coming off
Ex850R
Bit of lube in the lock and mechanism and buy a repair kit from Berry's , Voldat or Usa/UK $15 i recall?
I am going to try a repair method on a spare door card , not much business in it but handy to have a method , if i can pull it off.
jaykenneally
Yeah, Ill sort it out with everything else tomorrow haha. Going to make myself a list in the morning :P
Yeah Id like to get it sorted. It doesn't really annoy me that much but Im a perfectionist haha.
My drivers door doesn't open properly, like most car doors will require you to push them open and will sort of hold in the middle if you know what i mean, this one springs open and will just open and close according to the hill your on. I can see whats broken, it lies between the two hinges, all cars have them I just forget what they're called, it has like notches in it that supports the door and stops it from swinging around. I can grab a photo tomorrow. Might be called a door strap?
Anyway, its broken, I've heard its yet another common problem. The door on the 850 is fine so I could use the mechanism off that but I hear they are welded on??
Rob
Check strap. They often break on P80's ... Easily fixed
Sometimes they need welding. sometimes not. depends where it is broken.
jaykenneally
It looks like its slipped out or something, I know its a common fault haha. Ill get some pics tomorrow :)
I just realised, I almost have one of each generation, got an 850, first gen V70 and second gen V70XC <3 Growing quite a collection here, a 240GLE wagon in blue is the only thing missing haha!
:)
Ex850R
Damn check strap , I could drag the welder out and do mine , one day...
jaykenneally
Oh its called a check-strap? Thats weird haha. Well its that thing I can tell, all the other doors seem fine
jamesinc
@JeremyK I am parting out a dark blue 1997 V70 T5 send me your shopping list.
Also the check strap on my 850 has started to fail AGAIN. FUUUUU
jaykenneally
I would say spoiler but that postage cost haha
jamesinc
Also @Cam already pinched the spoiler. Actually it's not that expensive to post; it's made of hollow plastic so it only weighs a couple kg.
