My 1992 240 Volvo - which has run like a dream until just recently - has become unreliable. It stops without warning. Just cuts out altogether. No shuddering, hesitating, noises of any kind. Just stops.
I wait a minute or three and it restarts readily.
The mechanic we use is reluctant to invest a lot of time trying to diagnose the problem because of the cost. After my husband spent some time talking with him, he was eventually persuaded to replace the fuel pump and filter, and I think he was fairly confident that he's got it sorted. We drove it home without problems, but the very next time my husband drove it, it cut out.
My husband and I don't know much about cars. But this one has been so good that we would be interested in spending a bit more money on it if anyone can advise us on what else we can ask the mechanic to look at/fix.
Thank you.
