Aftermarket springs and shocks are much more common for a 2" lift than standard, so yes it would make more sense to put a lift in.
Jon's Disco with a 2" lift and 235/85R16 tyres looks like the height you'd expect from the factory, it certainly doesn't look lifted. They do lack clearance in stock form.
