Thanks to everyone who help, I decided to re-edit this, save making a new one.
I pulled the cluster out, and sure enough, no blub in the check engine slot, nor was there a service bulb light nor for some strange reason, a high been bulb light. So I put some in there, and bob's your uncle, I know have all the warning lights :) (I do really have an uncle bob, that's sad)
ECU has been read, checked, and cleared, and checked again. No errors.
All warning lights flash up, and then off, and remain off.
I have a funny idle plus no power, even when the foot is flat to the boards. It is drinking the fuel, and surging at speeds about 40 kmh. Fastest I have pushed her is 80 kmh, and she didn't like. Hesitates and flat spots up to 40kmh.
I have a rattle in the exhaust, mainly around the CAT, but I don't have any funny smells emitting from either end of the car. Spark plugs look ok, running the 3 prong NGK plugs ($16 something odd each I think). I have tried the temp thing with the CAT, but it all feels hot to me. Although, when the revs start being funny when I am stationary, the noise from the exhaust is present.
So, can anyone guess what wrong? Since the ECU is clear and not showing errors, I know that narrows things down some.
Is it the CAT? or fuel pump/regulator? (unsure if they flag as errors)

Spark plugs?

I havn't pulled them out to have a look yet, will do that in morning. We ovlov's (that's what we nick name them), miles ahead of anything Australia, japan or America produce. And, well they are just so comfy.
Well I will check the plugs tomorrow, see if they ok. Lets hope its a quick fix :)
Thanks egads

Just a thought , does the check light go on at first click on the key with all other lights?
If not , its blown. Or removed...

I was thinking that about the check engine, so I took it down to supercheap and had them run the scanner tool over it. What the ***** EGS 50-42, as it say there are 3 stored errors. Doesn't tell me what errors though, just that it had them. The guy cleared the computer, and it runs a lot better then what it did, still hesitate while driving in low rev rang. But not as bad. The warning light for the automatic does not flash either, and it does light up with the rest of the lights on the dash. I will pop out and have a look at the cluster (battery removed before hand of course). But can it be a simple thing like spark plugs? I understand the coil will flag and error, but could it be that simple?
Scan Tool Used: Bosch ESI[tronic] v2014/1.1.00.002

Code 313 Drive Position Senor - Improbable.
Will that store as a fault if the ECU is being tested without the car running....
Ex850R
It would be stored.

What the is a drive position sensor, god I hate google, is it sensor on the gear box or is it the throttle position sensor?
I google, and all I get is TPS not DPS...
Ex850R
Its under the gear stick , the to and fro ratcheting the shifter to clean them may help , I wonder if Contact Cleaner ( electrical) sprayed in there will fix with some ratcheting ?? It fixed the bold button mechanism problem on the gear lever I had , usually an expensive fix no one on other forums seembto have thought of it and buy new ones...
Dool
I thought that might of been what it was, google is just a pain sometimes.
So today, went and got computer codes checked, and cleared. Took it for a drive. Went back, no fault codes, ecu remained clear.
No for the fun part. It has trouble getting up to speed, and no it surges. Again, no warning lights or anything. Spark plugs and leads have to be ordered in. So gotta wait till Monday before I can place the order for those. So I am about to change over plugs 1 and 4 then 2 and 3 to see if there is any difference. It has the NGK 3 prong performance plugs in her.
So yeah, on a clean error free ECU running, it hesitates to get up past 40kmh and surges once you past 50kmh. Was thinking it was the Fuel Pump, but after a quick (gran-pa) run on the freeway just before, it rev's past 4k rmp with hesitation or lack of engine power. Happy the ECU is error free now with all sensors working correctly :) But I am back to square one......again........
The old couple we got it off just recently had it a the local mechanic (no one in town has a good thing to say about them). So kinda thinking they may have done something to cause the faults to begin with.... Just a thought.
I can rule the fuel pump out, so I am thinking the O2 sensor, Plugs (just because) and Regulator......... As these things don't throw off faults to my understanding... correct me please if I am wrong

Oh, yeah, when I did check the spark plugs, the where that loose, my 2 year old daughter could of undone them with her hands. But now I have done them up correctly.

So I took it to the Volvo Mechanic today, long 50km drive I can tell ya. Anyway, after I get there, 15 seconds later he had the problem sorted. It was a faulty Coil. It was an after market coil, and it didn't through any warnings. So all good, driving like a new one (well if it still were 1997).
This is the second the guys have saved my bacon, they are an authroised Volvo repair, and only deal in Volvo, they even have a small wrecking yard, just in case you need parts.
I gotta give them a plug
