I am biased, I paid a little less than 2k for my 1980 almost 2 years ago. It didn't start, had rust and doesn't look like much.
It had been sitting for 9 years as other people's project and has rust repair requirements. Rear mudflap passenger side and the rear light areas.
Having sat for awhile the k jet mechanical fuel system takes some work to get running.
I have found parts availability to be ok, but there are some bits that are expensive and come from overseas.
They are a bit of a homologation special at the bare bones. Meaning the door size is the physical different size but most of a normal 240 is there. The interior is unique, which might be harder to deal with if you need find bits.
Lots left to do on mine but I wouldn't sell it and it's not horrible to learn how to work on. But I still feel like it is worth it because it still makes me happy taking up that one piece of drive way space.
I have seen 3 running driving examples advertised at $10k since I got one. But they didn't seam to sell straight away and I don't think I would have been able to commit that price.
Cheers,
Tim
