Hi all. First time poster long time Volvo owning dreamer here.

Looking at buying a 1979 242GT and want to know what if anything for sale ?

And also price guide for these, anything from a poor example to good original to restored. What are they worth ?

Cheers AJ

Anywhere from $500 to $25,000

I've owned two of them and I wish I still did

Cheers Ramrod. Hard to get parts for or still some around do you know ? Any common problems to look out for ? Sorry im new to the Volvo scene.

Cheers

Parts are still being produced the trouble is finding someone that knows the cars if you're not mechanically able.

Luckily there are enough brains here to help with any questions

Sweet thanks for that. Looking at one in the next day or so.

I am biased, I paid a little less than 2k for my 1980 almost 2 years ago. It didn't start, had rust and doesn't look like much.

It had been sitting for 9 years as other people's project and has rust repair requirements. Rear mudflap passenger side and the rear light areas.

Having sat for awhile the k jet mechanical fuel system takes some work to get running.

I have found parts availability to be ok, but there are some bits that are expensive and come from overseas.

They are a bit of a homologation special at the bare bones. Meaning the door size is the physical different size but most of a normal 240 is there. The interior is unique, which might be harder to deal with if you need find bits.

Lots left to do on mine but I wouldn't sell it and it's not horrible to learn how to work on. But I still feel like it is worth it because it still makes me happy taking up that one piece of drive way space.

I have seen 3 running driving examples advertised at $10k since I got one. But they didn't seam to sell straight away and I don't think I would have been able to commit that price.

Cheers,

Tim
