So I um... Broke down today!
No idea what happened. It started in Eltham when I was parking my car. I felt the power steering shit it self because suddenly I had really heavy steering. I thought "thats wierd, maybe my pump is gone or something". I was in the middle of a shopping center so it was a bit of an embarrassing spot to break down in. I let the car sit and came back to it and all of a sudden my power steering was back. I reversed out of the spot and did notice some kind of fluid on the ground, but the power steering was working so I assumed it must have got low or something, i didnt really know what happened there. As I was driving home the car didnt give me any problems really. I noticed my messages system kept flashing up and then disappearing. It sometimes does this as one of my parker light globes has a slightly dodgy connection so it thinks I have a bulb out but then realises I dont. It did it a few times so I turned the lights off and it didnt come back for a while and then it did again and I thought "its probably telling me the power steering fluid is low but its not quite low enough to keep the light on".
Next minute I drive through a roundabout and the messages comes on and stays on solid "No Oil Pressure" it says and I was like WHAT THE HELL. So, learning from experience with the 850, I pulled over straight away and shut the engine off. I noticed a growing pool of oil on the ground. There was oil sprayed all over the power steering pump, top of the engine, and I think back into the exhaust manifold because that thing was smoking like no tomorrow. Initially I thought I may have had blown a turbo due to the amount of smoke but the car wasnt driving funny at all and the RACV guy said its more likely it just got sprayed on by oil. God I hope so.
SO some side notes. The car has basically no oil in it now. I havent started it. It's currently sitting in the carpark at Berry Motor Group for them to look at when they get a chance. It was a hot day and the car was giving me a few gremlins with the transmission. I have had the radiator fail previously so when my power steering died I wasnt overly concerned with it. I was going to figure it out when I got home as normally I wouldnt assosciate a loss of power steering with a loss of engine oil. But as I said the moment the computer told me I had no oil I shut the engine off. Note: The engine wasnt quitting or failing when the power steering died, it was running normal, no squeeky belt or anything either, it just randomly died. Nor was the engine giving me any troubles on the drive from Eltham. The RACV guy told me that the engine is probably still okay. If it lost its oil in Eltham it probably lost about a litre or two, and I drove to Templestowe (about 20 minutes) before it lost the rest of it. Something to do with the heat I reckon. It didnt give me any tappety noises or any smoke like the 850 did, it was actually still running fine. The car is due for a service now. Normally these cars get serviced every 7,500kms but my previous mechanic assured me that with modern day oils its okay to do it every 10. Im thinking perhaps a seal that was supposed to be replaced 2,500 kms ago is gone or something. I was trying to figure out where it was spraying from, it has covered mostly the front of the engine so maybe PCV as that is down there, or oil filter, have had one of those fail before.
Any thoughts guys? Im sad now :'(

Cant really see the oil much here but the thermostat was covered in it, and it was pouring out the bottom through the engine cover.
