nickm Do you think this will do the job? I need to change the stem seals on a T5 and don't want to lift the head. So that and compressed air. any other bits with the cam to watch out for? do I need a cam holder tool ?
Philia_Bear IMHO your better off just lifting the head and cleaning it if your flipping the car I would not bother, if your keeping the car pull it and do it properly
nickm hmm...maybe it's time Picked up that kit for $35 plus $6 postage off the bay. The problem is not bad...puffs a bit after a warm start if the car has sat for an hour or so. Or when you have just put oil in it. If the head has never been off the car it is probably time to change the gasket.. But are white blocks as prone to head gasket failure as a cast/alloy blocks? I seem to remember the difference in expansion of cast to alloy being a factor.
Vee_Que How many km's has it done? Do you think the previous owners changed oil by time and kms or just kms? They gain a lot of sludge inside (I do suspect you've had the rocker cover off before though so you'd know if it was bad or not) from doing oil changes by the long distance driving intervals not the stop start, short driving and heavy traffic driving intervals.
nickm I will report on the tool when I get it. 260,000km odd 30,000 by me. I have good service records and there is not much sludge for it's age. Looking at the interior condition it's has been a long run car. As the interior looks like the car has done 160,000. Still a full head gasket is a big job
nickm Jurbo looks good I checked out when I did the vacuum lines. Not to much oil in there Cam belt changed @ 220,000 odd Suspected the turbo but in the past they seem to smoke after extended idle. This is just a puff only when the car has sat warm. Am I right in thinking that after I put oil in and it is still at the top of the motor that I oil is getting in the combustion camber from the seals or guides? I'lll get a whole head kit. Pull the cam cover and see where the motor is at.
Philia_Bear Smoke after extended idle is most often pcv Heck Smoke from a whiteblock is prettymuch pcv or hg
Ex850R Oil build up in intercooler? Simple Green it and fluch then get aluminium cleaner , dilute and swish it around in there..
nickm That kit arrived pretty cool for under $40 included is a compressor connector. Not complex but looks like it will do the job. Pretty sure the oil is entering from the valves
tmovlovs You can tell the difference when you start the motor up after it's been sitting for a while. Oil runs down the valve and either drops into the cylinder if the valve is open or the oil sits on the end of the valve before the seat. Lots of ugly blue smoke upon startup then it subsides.
nickm @Ex850R Les this was the Item seller does not seem to have another listed, but you can get a fry pan. ebay.com.au/itm/201138869020
