My seat foam is perishing on my ‘80 242 too. If you find any good leads let me know.

ORANGE COLOURED STRIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEAT
From memory, it's very similar to the orange stripe in my Daihatsu's seat:
Our local trimmer was able to redo the seats to this:
The passenger seat just needed the base re-stretching, but the drivers seat needed a rebuild from the base up.
As you can see, the orange stripe isn't a perfect match, nor is the vinyl, but it'll all wear in quite well.
