Most 240s in AUS got Girling rear calipers. I’ve had 79, 81, 86, 87, 88, 90, 91, 92 and 93 and they are all Girling front and rear. No guarantee of course! Most US cars got ATE rear as they were the only caliper with the extra boss for the rear axle snubbers for rear crash (USA feature), so if you order brake stuff from the US you have to be a bit careful.

I think early US cars got Girling rear calipers as that axle snubber didn’t come in until the early 80s? So you can get Girling caliper pins cheap from RockAuto...for example:

Of course it’s not a high-dollar item if you can get them for 3x the price locally then that’s the way to go because they’ll only be like $5 instead of $1.60 LOL!

I haven’t had an earlier car (that I looked at brakes on anyway) so the 78 very well could have had ATE brakes from the factory. I sometimes think they used whatever was in the parts bin at the time! :)

My understanding is that the 264 range ran ATE calipers and everything else 2 series in Australia was girling.

Thats been my experience as well

I had a look under my 1977 and other 1978: both Girling. Seems the 1978 rally car is a bit of an anomaly.

Back to this thread. I fitted new pads into my rear ATE calipers and found the axle locked up. It seems the ATE calipers aren’t centred over the disk, so one pad fits easily (the inside one) while the other was very hard to get in and jammed on the brake.

It sounds possible I have the wrong rear disks. Do ATE calipers use a different disk to the Girling calipers?

Or should I just source some Girling calipers and forget the oddball ATE ones.
