Ex850R Good centrepunch. Go from small drill to medium then the desired size or just 2 steps on that size. Trick-put a bit of rag in first drilled hole, apply lubricant to rag, drill. Rag stops chattering and gives a nicer round, not triangle like hole. Old tool makers trick!
PaddlerEd Brand new Tek-Screw and impact driver is our trick... but I think that's farm-spec fix... use that to put a pilot hole in, then drill fresh hole with proper drill bit.
Slowbrick Just had this made. AN6 welded to the rail and an AN6 welded to the other side of the union that goes on the firewall.
AshDVS What size was the union? There are a heap of off-the-shelf adaptors available for that sort of thing that'd mean you're not introducing another point of failure like you might with welding two fittings together. It does look pretty neat though.
Slowbrick I looked all over the place and couldnt find anything. Guy at the shop said its an SAE 45. I tried looking all over and came up with nothing :(
Philia_Bear The fuel line is a normal BSP fitting same one as used on most Bosch diesel fuel injectors Replacing it with 6AN is what I did as well
Slowbrick So when i go to find an adapter what do I search? I tried SAE 45 to JIC and came up with nothing :(
jamesinc I've looked for adapters before without much success, though I knew a lot less about fittings back then. If you wanted an adaptor for the next rail you do, I'd measure the fitting carefully. The concave end on the male side on the rail itself suggests it is BSPP, and would probably be a 1/4" fitting (I'm guessing). You can get BSPP to AN adapters: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3252
Vee_Que Jic and now the Chinese equivalent make for fun. But a good pirtek would have found the right part for you.

Slowbrick I went to Enzed as the Pirtek here are useless. The Pirtek in blacktown also couldn't help me and the best they could do was braze a barb onto the existing fitting. If someone can show me a SAE 45 to AN6 then I'll buy it.
jamesinc It's not an SAE 45 fitting, the flare is the wrong way. SAE have an outwards flare on the male side of the fitting, Volvo fuel rails have an inwards flare on the male side and a captive coupling on the female side, which as far as I know means they have to be BSPP fittings.
Slowbrick We are still moving! Havent had any pictures to show as the work has largely been behind the scenes electrical stuff. Have now tidied up alot of the wiring under the dash and plugged everything back in. Added a relay to power the fuel pump in the tank as the original wiring was giving me a few headaches. The dashboard is nearly completely installed and is looking factory AF. Ash has sent me some nice new front rotors and I have a caliper rebuild kit on the way. When they arrive the front brakes and suspension will be complete and then the front can go back on the ground. Im torn between getting the gearbox out now or after I start the engine again to make sure its all working. Will depend on how ahead I get with things. Still seem to be working towards the goal of mid September as most of the "repair" work is now finished and its a matter of just assembling things.
Slowbrick No idea. There are a fair few fiddly jobs to do. The kind of jobs that take you 3 hours without even realising it!
