Wanted - B230FT Running Condition!!!
For what car
ramrodFor what car
Volvo 240 mate
For a 240 a factory b230ft from a 740 or 940 will not fit - the distributor ( rear of cylinder head on those engines) will contact the 240 firewall so you’ll need to convert to 240 type block mounted distributor
OR
turbocharge the original 240 engine, if it is a late LH 2.4 car this is easy
I dont currently have the 240 yet, looking to purchase one in the near future and swap this in. That was the plan at-least, however i'm interested in turboing the B230F just wasn't sure of the parts required to do so. Turbo, manifold, intercooler, piping, ECU?Aftermarket Internals? Injectors? Let me know.

If you get a 1989 or later 240, it will already have LH 2.4 injection which is turbo-able. This makes adding a turbo simple
you’ll need plumbing for the turbo, so oil lines to and from (this means drilling a hole in the block for the oil return), intercooler and piping, aftermarket injectors, turbo ecu and icu also known as ezk116, exhaust to mate to turbo, and you’ll need to relocate the AMM to the opposite side
the engine internals don’t need to be touched
you can also do this to a 1986-1988 240 which uses LH 2.2 injection
ah i see, how easy are these parts to get and what sort of price am i looking at all up. As for drilling the hole can this be done at home or professionally done, what sort of boost can i run with this set up and what sort of power expectations?
Speed or horsepower directly correlates with how much money you wish to spend
so how fast can you afford to go?
yoshifab sell the fitting for the block oil return hole, it will come with instructions
the turbo parts are getting rare now but luckily aftermarket products are available
let's say 2 grand
That will probably be gone once you’ve gathered all the necessary bits, paid people to help if you cannot do it all yourself, fit it all, accounted for the miscellaneous things, plus all the other expenses that come with resuscitating an old car
it won’t be fast but it will be fun, and that’s what learning to do things yourself is all about
this is your first car so I wouldn’t expect too much from it
Yeah that sounds pretty reasonable, any idea of how to get the parts?
If I were you, and try not to take this the wrong way
I would try to buy a car first, familiarise yourself with it and driving and owning a car
fix up what’s wrong in it
get someone to at least look at the brakes
renew the cooling system
do a stage 0 on the engine and rest of mechanicals (getting the car back to how it drove when it was new, standard specs)
then after a year or two, think about doing the mods
it’s a slow process but that’s how to do it right
Yeah probably isn't the best idea to rush into big financial investments. However I'm set on tuning this volvo up so in the meantime i'd still want to get parts and piece the build together. Do you have any idea where a good source of parts would be, as you said older parts are running out.
Someone here will have something
