Got the RH engine mount replaced today. What a PITA. Had already removed the oil filter...had to remove the alternator and of course the large power wire nearly broke off as I couldn't get the nut undone so I just cut it. Will have to crimp a new end on it. I have to replace the alternator bushes anyway. That front bolt on the engine side mount bracket is nearly impossible to get at when the mount is sagged. Anyway, it's done now. Probably took me 2 hours plus the half hour at the end I spend cleaning all the grease off my tools and hands and looking for my 14 mm deep socket that somehow vanished (turns out it was in the wrong drawer in the toolbox LOL!) I need to come up with a better way to support the engine while doing mounts. Thinking about a cross-beam on top with screws to hold up the engine, as I was using my transmission jack with blocks of wood to lift from underneath and it just didn't feel too safe. I know there are commercial ones available but I have some steel and stuff so don't see why I couldn't knock up something simple.
RH front caliper had a broken bleeder nipple, but fortunately I was able to drill a slightly larger hole in the end, pound a Torx impact driver bit in and back it out with the impact wrench. That was a bonus as I thought I'd have to replace the caliper. Of course all the brake hose fittings are being a PITA so I'll probably have to replace the brake hard lines when I do the hoses. I feel like I've gotten in too deep already and I haven't started replacing the leaky engine gaskets yet. Also looks like transmission output shaft seal is leaking as well as the selector arm seal on the side of the transmission. Those may have to be jobs for the lucky new owner as I really need to get this car off my hoist in the next week or two.
New RH mount pic. I refuse to clean the 33 years of grease and grime off this thing!
