I lied, it's actually my 2008 Mazda 3 but it's built on the same platform as some s/v40's. Posted here as the non-volvo section seems to be only build threads, feel free to move/remove if you think it doesn't belong on ozvolvo.
I had a prang on the passenger side front. Replaced the steering tie rods, control arm, driveshaft and wheel. Since then i've noticed wheel hop developing when the weight is off the wheel and I'm accelerating.
There was no shake immediately but it has now progressed over a period of about 10 months to severe wheel hop and steering wheel wobble whenever I turn left and accelerate at even 5% throttle.
The wheel bearing has made a subtle humming noise since the prang but I can't feel any play in the bearing and it spins freely with the wheel off the ground. The problem is even more pronounced on uneven roads and takes a little more throttle on smooth pavement.
The car is borderline unsafe to drive on anything other than fresh roads as the car slowly drifts into the oncoming lane when the shake is occurring. Can a bad strut cause these symptoms or is it something else like a bad wheel bearing, badly balanced wheel, uneven wear etc... (I've also had two alignments since then from different shops, no effect)
