Volvo 240/740/940/850/V70 Wanted for Returning Oz Volvo Member

Dear All

Having just returned from UK to Australia, Im currently in 2 weeks quarantine in Adelaide(out on the 4/1/21)

I would like to buy a good condition Volvo in any of the above categories.

I have owned all of them(except an 850) at various points ,often simultaneously, and some of you will recall my previous posts relating to a 16V engine that I built when in Melbourne few yrs back so rest assured I am a Volvo enthusiast and your Swedish Brick will be very well looked after.

I can't really do any project work so car needs to be a good daily runner, with perfect functions / roadworthy cert etc and MUST have functioning AC. (please no " just needs a regassing" comments )

Its a good thing you're in SA, there have been some real Gems for sale there lately.

Really? ...tell me more..where are they advertised? ..looking up car sales.com and gumtree..not a lot except in Vic with ludicrously priced 240s.

I own various 240's from 1975-1993 and not one of them I would consider a parts car (a car which is only good for spare parts)

It's fine if someone has a personal vendetta against something, do not try to convince other people to join in

wagons are never parts cars. I personally think 86 - 91 aedans are bread and butter variety and if you really want a good one go early or late in the 240

Really?Thats interesting. I'd love to know more about that. The only thing I knew was that earlier cars did not have the effective rust panel protection that later ones had and obviously the B230 engine changed over the years..

Not sure take it as you see it with rust and age and location. The earlier kjet b23e motors are reliable less wiring more likely to be manual and I like them better than the lame b230f with EFI lh2.2 in 1986 they lost a lot of character from what I’ve seen in the Australian market with an uglier shape and basic features. The later 1992 and 1993 got some character back and if you’re lucky a airbag and b230fx motor and lh2.4 ecu. think Australia got marketed the lamest colours and models. If you want a somewhat unique car that’s how I rationalise it. We all want a special one you know.

700 are mostly hard to find a good one with frankly a poor quality and complicated design compared to the 240.

940 are good 1994 onwards.

Unlike most cars there isn't a year where there is anything really wrong with a 240, just depends on taste and what you want from a car. I personally like the lh2.2 years as they are the simplest, reliable setup on a 240 that I can work on well. My head doesn't gel well with making kjet keep running well, I can just keep it running.
