Hi all,
I have an early V70 (1998) with the electronic climate control system.
All was working until a month or so back. The first sign of trouble was the cabin fan would vary in speed (downwards) quite dramatically, despite the fan control being set to a fixed speed. It would be running, then suddenly lose speed for a moment. This happened for about a week then the fan quit altogether.
Separate to this, just once or twice, the whole system would suddenly, for five to ten seconds, deliver a blast of hot air to the cabin while the fan was running. Now, with no fan, it sometimes does the same thing with just the airflow created through the system by the car’s movement. It is very rare, but I figure it might be important.
The fan electronics are working well enough that the aircon can detect if the fan is switched on or not. So, for example, the aircon switches off if I slide the fan control to off. And the aircon and heat work with the airflow induced by car movement.
My gut feel is that maybe the brushes have gone on the fan motor, but I’ve read enough of the problems with this climate control system to wonder if maybe it is something else.
Can anyone suggest some logical testing steps to isolate the problem? I’d really like the aircon back before summer hits us for real. And I’d rather not pull apart more the car than I absolutely have to,
Matt
