  • 2010 Ford Focus XR5 Turbo LV Mk 2 Engine Malfunction

Hello Everybody!

I was wondering if anyone was about to help!

My brother owns a 2010 xr5 turbo 2.5 5 cylinder with the volvo engine

Recently when he starts the car, the dash displays "Power steering malfunction" then "Engine malfunction"

As he drives.. The car suddenly has engine systems faults, Its like the car goes into limp mode, Acceleration reduces the steering assist faults and the car starts beeping.

We have taken the car down to ford to 'fix' this issue. The Mechanic replaced the battery and cleared the codes.. Saying that would fix this issue. We didnt have a problem with it on the drive back home, And for the next week. Then Suddenly as my brother drove the car the same problems occured..

Does anyone know what this issue could be? That is immobilising the car.

The car has less then 70,000kms on it, No modifcations and is a 2010 Ford Focus XR5 Turbo LV Mk 2

Thanks Matt

Hey Matty,

LS-LV Focus XR5s are weirdly sensitive to battery issues, so the first question I'd have would be how old the battery in it is, particularly as you're seeing multiple issues.

If it's older than 3 years, replace it.

Otherwise, scan it properly and lets have a good look at the codes.

My xr5 had the power steering failure message on start up twice, both times it was battery related.

The only time I ever seen the engine malfunction message was when I was loading flash tunes.

Hey guys! The battery was replaced by ford in July ,they had also cleared the codes and this didn't fix the issue.. the car has never been modified.. after receiving the car back from ford, days afterwards it was continuing to happen again

If you can get the reult of the code read from them it would help.

Or go to a local mechanic and ask to read the codes. May charge a nominal fee , if outragous ask elsewhere.

Maybe ask them to stress test the battery, even though new it can be faulty.

If I remember correctly the code was D900,

I've booked in the car to go back to ford next Wednesday, technicians want to have another look at it..

If you are paying dealer rates then take it elsewhere.

get battery load tested.

Told them, I wasn't paying another cent til the issue is fixed, them being a certified ford technician, I would of hoped they knew what they were talking about and doing.

From reading apparently the D900 code is very popular with the ford focus?

D900 code is very popular with the ford focus?

Maybe common but surely not popular!

Looks like D900 is an electrical communication fault so you could try this:
