carnut222 Anyone ever seen one of these? I have a 72 164 that I discovered has this interesting A/C system on it. Unfortunately missing the central vent insert. Never seen anything like it. It must be a locally-developed system as the evaporator has Air International on it. Basically there's a central duct housing that mounts behind the fuse panel and it closes off to the front switch console. The switch console has 2 small round vents (one on each lower side) and would have had a central rectangular vent or vents. The evaporator sits above the RH driver's knee, and there's a large duct from that over to the central housing. Kinda neat. I wonder if it's worth saving? Might be worth something I suppose for somebody with an early style 140/160.
1971_144GL Yes, I have one from a car I took apart a long time ago. I understand that they are dealer installed and were outrageous in expense, so quite rare.

I suppose it was a kit developed for Australian cars and produced locally by Air International. I probably ought to save it for posterity. Do you have a photo of what the centre vents look like? I wonder if any generic old-style AC vents would fit. The front panel on the console is strange. It looks like very thin wood, but the outer layer almost looks like very thin translucent masking tape? Hmm, I guess maybe it was a wood or wood-grain of some sort that has been weathered. I like how it has the "Volvo Air Conditioning" engraved on it!
Roinik Yes, I have one from a 72 144. Apparently they're a tad crappy. I'm sure you could retrofit a more modern unit in to fit those outlets.
georgej just purchased a second hand aircond system for my 72, thats what i got but with the chrome vent, if/when i fit it will install a sanden type compressor, not a job im looking forward to.
