So for the longest time Rachael has wanted a van for camping and just for the sake of owning a van. I present to you the 1989 VW Transporter complete with a 2.1 Wasserboxer dak dak in the back.

Key points for you who care:

210k on the original 2.1 Wasserboxer5 speed manual complete with stump puller 1st gearHeater but no air con.Solar panel with 70ah agmEvery fuel hose replacedEvery coolant hose replacedBilstein B4 shocks all round.

The plan is to set it up as a Westfalia clone for weekends away but will also be Rachael's daily driver to work and back.

It will be getting a one month shakedown while the cabinets get built and then we will list the pajero up for sale and the bus/van will be the fulltime daily drive for Rachael. She is very excited! Ive always wanted to own a 911 so i guess this is close enough.

So when she has a long shift she can just skip driving home some days?

Almost is screaming for a swap to the Subaru h6 3.0

At the moment the 2.1 seems really healthy and makes good power so unless something catastrophic happens to it then it will just stay in there.

So what does this do to the existing van project?

Nothing. Its still on track and this will replace the Paj and do daily duties and weekends away while the Pano is getting put back together. I wont live forever and figured why not get something we can enjoy right now instead of slugging away at something for years only to get to the end and go "hmm...well...now what?".

My bro had one back in the day , loved driving it!

Great ole bus the Transporter ? pretty ?

I don't mind these T3s, I wouldn't mind one of the ute/pickups.

These motors are fairly solid, it's worth having some of the weird vw spcific EFI relays on hand as spares and chucking cam/crank sensors at it, like an LH 240.

I'm fairly certain one runs on D-Jet and if not then its Digifant. Its been pissing down rain so I havent had a chance to really eyeball everything. Drove it to Bunnings today to get supplies for the new cabinet setup. Walked in, bought a bunch of timber and plywood, put it in the cavern at the back and drove off. Its like having a small truck but the engine is in the back so its a sports truck.

Does it have lift off overstear?

      You poor, poor man.

Dont show Mrs Spac. She will want one 100%

      Bus update.

Today we took out all of the old interior to start fresh with our own build. We are for the most part building it up like a Westfalia minus the inbuilt kitchenette and a change to the cupboard at the back. The sheetmetal is straight as a die and im very happy with the condition of the body. The main negative ive found is an abundance of small screw holes in the floor from previous installations that I will weld up and zinc to prevent them getting rusty.

Today I got the rear cabinets planned out and mocked up. Rachael took the interior out and gave the lot a good clean. Then she laid the vinyl floor planks on the existing plywood floor and installed some carpet to cover the metal boxes the front seats are on. Doesnt look like much but we are very happy with the progress of one day.

Are you keeping the rock'n'roll in there or improving it?

So where does the milk go!?

(Westfalia make lots of farm stuff , had to fix some damaged packaged tank/pump/refrigeration units that were new to Australia long time ago, the mob i was with fabbed the rotary dairy piping for them to sell too)

Turns out that seat isnt a rock n roll. It folds forward instead of splitting in 2 like a rock n roll so its been removed and we plan on building our own slat sofa bed with plans to replace it with a real rock n roll later down the line when the need to carry more than 2 passengers arises.

Keeping that seat came with too many compromises in the interior design and the utility of it wont get used for some time so it was decided it can go for now.

Milk will go in the fridge that the seller provided :) There are beers in there atm but im sure I can get rid of a few of them to make room for milk.

Bus update. Built the homemade ikea slide out bed base. Gonna put the slats on today and we officially have a bed!
